Hello!

My name is Karla :) I was born in Mexico, where I grew up surrounded by magic (and great food too!).
I've always been interested in science, and particularly, human behavior, so I assumed that becoming a psychologist was the natural thing for me to do. Secretly, what I really wanted to do was to draw, but to be honest, I wasn't sure how I could even begin to achieve that (and make a living out of it).

I decided I needed a break, and I moved to Boston, an amazing city where decisions were made and courage was brewed. While I was there, I did an Illustration for the Children’s Market course at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

That course changed everything and it traced a new path for me. I had to be even more courageous this time because my next move implied crossing the Atlantic, and I ended up moving to England to pursue illustration and a few years later I graduated from the Norwich University of the Arts.

After a few transatlantic moves, heartaches and other obstacles along the way, I currently work as a freelancer illustrator.

I'm interested in tiny and simple narratives and my work centers around the exploration of characters in the context of seemingly everyday situations, as well as solitude and introspection.

I’m also a Skillshare Top Teacher and couldn’t be happier!. I’m learning so much and I’m aproaching my illustration practice under a new light. Here is a link to my classes in case you’re interested.

(On a different note, I also like dogs, cats, coffee, shadows, books, fairy lights, the night sky, sandy toes, the smell of the ocean, socks, trees and tea to dip my chocolate in)

Thank you for stopping by!
